The Sacrament of Marriage is a sacred covenant between a man and a woman, in which they commit to each other for life, reflecting the love and faithfulness of Christ to His Church. This sacrament, also known as the Sacrament of Matrimony, is a sign of God’s love and grace, and it is meant to be both a mutual partnership for the couple’s well-being and a means of spiritual growth.
In Marriage, the spouses pledge to love, honour, and support each other, and to be open to the possibility of having children, raising them in the faith, and providing a loving family environment. The Church teaches that marriage is a sacrament because it brings the couple closer to God and gives them the grace to live their vocation, whether in times of joy or hardship. The sacrament is conferred through the vows exchanged by the couple in the presence of a priest or deacon, who acts as a witness to the covenant before God.
