Holy Orders is a sacrament through which men are ordained to serve the Church as deacons, priests, or bishops. It is one of the seven sacraments and is essential for the continuation of the Church’s mission, as it confers the authority to preach, teach, administer the sacraments, and shepherd the faithful. The sacrament involves the laying on of hands by a bishop, which signifies the transmission of the Holy Spirit and the power to carry out the responsibilities of the ordained ministry.
Priesthood and Religious Life
Our Parish supports anyone discerning a call to priesthood or religious life. Each Year on the Fourth Sunday of Easter our parish celebrates Vocations Sunday. The Meath diocesan vocations team organise vocation events across the diocese each year. If you believe that you have a calling to be a priest you are welcome to join them at one of their regular prayer evenings, discernment days and gatherings. Since 2020 our diocese has had its own vocations website meathvocations.com. On this website there are articles and homilies on discernment, the calling to priesthood and vocation stories from priests of the diocese.
The Meath Diocesan Vocations Director is Fr. Tony Gonoude and he can be contacted at (044) 9373923. Alternatively, if you would like to explore options around a vocation, you can speak in confidence to one of the priests of our parish.
