Story of the 10 Commandments
A long time ago, a tribe of people known as the Israelites had been living as slaves in Egypt for many years, but God helped them escape. He led them out of Egypt through the desert to a special land that He promised to give them.
As they journeyed through the desert, God took care of them. He gave them food when they were hungry, water when they were thirsty, and He protected them from danger. The Israelites learned that God was powerful and kind, and they trusted Him.

One day, God called Moses, their leader, to the top of a big mountain called Mount Sinai. There, God spoke to Moses and gave him 10 Commandments. These were special rules to help the Israelites live the right way and stay close to God. God wanted to help them be a good example to the world and show others how to love and respect Him and one another.
The 10 Commandments were written on two big stone tablets. When Moses brought the commandments down from the mountain, the people were so excited to see what God had said. These rules were not just for the Israelites; they are for all of us to follow, to help us live in peace and love.
The 10 Commandments

1
Love the Lord Your God Alone, with All Your Heart
Love God deeply and with everything you have, like how you love your family and friends. It means putting God first in your life, listening to Him, and doing what makes Him happy, because He loves you so much.

2
Respect the Lord’s Name
We should speak about God in a kind and honourable way, because He is holy and deserves our respect. Just like you would speak kindly about someone you love, we should always use God’s name with care and thankfulness.

3
Keep the Lord’s Day Holy
Set aside Sunday as a special day to rest and spend time with God, going to Mass and praying. It’s a day to thank God for all He has given us and to focus on Him, instead of getting too busy with work or chores.

4
Honour Your Parents
Show love, respect, and obedience to your parents because they care for you and guide you. It also means helping them, listening to them, and being kind, just as God wants us to treat others with love.

5
All Life is in God’s Hands; Do Not Destroy Life
Always treat people with kindness, respect, and love, just like Jesus taught us. It means using kind words and actions to help others feel happy and safe, not sad or hurt.

6
Be Faithful in Marriage
When a Husband and Wife get married, they promise to love, trust, be loyal and take care of each other forever, just like God wants us to do.

7
Do Not Steal
We should never take things that aren’t ours without permission because it’s not fair or kind. God wants us to respect others’ belongings and be happy with what we have.

8
Do Not Speak Falsely of Others
Say what really happened and be honest, even when it’s hard. God loves it when we tell the truth because it shows that we are trustworthy and doing what is right.

9
Do Not Desire a Person Who Already Belongs with Another
If someone is married or has a special relationship with another person, we should respect that and not wish to be in their place. Just like how we wouldn’t want someone to take something that belongs to us, we should be kind and considerate towards others’ relationships too.

10
Do Not Be Greedy for Things That Already Belong To Others
Be happy with what you have and don’t feel upset because someone else has something you want. God wants us to be grateful for our blessings and to be happy for others when they receive good things.
